Why Fake Fever Works

It isn’t uncommon to try and get a fever under control when struck with one.  Fever, however, can be good.  While it’s good to monitor a fever in case it increases, if the fever is 101 degrees or under then it may be better not to fight it.

Up until yesterday, in my series on how to fight cold and flu I forgot about one fabulous line of defense; the fever!  Many people try to get rid of a fever because it’s a symptom of a very bad illness, but this is part of the reason why the system of treating symptoms as opposed to treating the disease is NOT better.  Fever can be our friend!  The body is constantly trying to maintain homeostasis (or equilibrium).  So, for example, when the skin is broken the body is equipped to create a scar to protect its immunity from pathogens; or if the body is cold it shivers to generate heat; or if it’s too hot it sweats to cool down; or when the body is invaded by pathogens that threaten to really harm it, it generates a fever.  Dr. Dunn taught me that if there is one thing bacteria and virus hate, it’s heat.  They weaken and die in heat.  Creating the fake fever, taking the Triguard and avoiding sugar really created a non-nurturing environment for whatever was invading my body; therefore the pathogens couldn't last very long.

When I have a fever that is out of control, which is not good for the body, then that is when it may be necessary to fight it.  I usually put a castor oil pack on my abdomen.  I will give more information about the castor oil pack in a later post.
