Blueberries

According to Dr. Andrew Weil, Dr. Joseph Mercola and the Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) blueberries are fabulous foods to snack on regularly.  Besides the fact that blueberries are yummy they play a big part in disease prevention.

It is widely known that antioxidant rich foods reduce signs of aging.  Well according to research, apparently it can also help to maintain cognitive function which can eventually slow down with age.  Therefore blueberries, being an antioxidant rich food, can play a role in your brain health.  Now the HSPH postulates that the high flavonoid content in berries in general can even reduce the risk of Parkinson's disease!  It can also reduce heart disease, high blood pressure risk and even helps fight colon cancer!  Dr. Mercola discussed how in one study rats with colon cancer had more than half pre-cancerous lesions disappear after eight weeks of being fed a supplement with pterostilbene which is a blueberry compound.

This week we are reducing our sugar intake.  Well if you want something sweet, then take the opportunity to give your body something wonderful while giving into that craving.  How about a bowl of fresh, sweet, organic blueberries?
