As Americans, we are often lectured about how a “diet” or a “way of life” will give us slim, fit, sexy bodies. The term “diet” has a bit of a negative connotation, therefore a new “way of life” is what I hear many diet experts advise. It's possible that some just need to change their eating style completely and it is possible that others just need a temporary change. Once the temporary change does what it should, however, it is necessary to find new skills so that you don't go back to an eating style that can lead to a decrease in fitness or worse an increase in illness. In other words when the "diet" is over, a new "way of life" needs to be implemented immediately. This is where I've seen many fall. Once they have lost weight, they feel they can go back to eating greasy GMO corn chips fried in trans fats and drinking beverages infested with heaping amounts of white sugar or high fructose corn syrup. This will NOT keep anyone healthy.
There are so many “diets” and “ways of life” to choose from that it can be confusing. There are several vegetarian diets. There is Donna Gate’s Body Ecology diet, David Wolfe’s raw food diet, Maximized Living’s healing diet, Dr. Atkin’s high protein diet (which I personally am not a fan of), the Mediterranean diet and there is even a diet that varies according to your blood type. Some of these diets I'm not too crazy about. That doesn't mean that it isn't a good diet for others. The individual must decide what is best for him or her. Which one raises energy for you? Which one decreases illness?
