Sugar Ban in Boston

Boston Mayor Thomas Menino has banned the sale and even the advertising of sugary drinks from buildings owned by the city and events sponsored by the city.  This motion was in response to the growing epidemic of obesity in Boston.

Nannyism is something that both my husband and I normally dislike.  In this case however, there is no law against these sugar infested drinks; but Menino just doesn’t want to be a part of the problem.  Sugar is a very addictive substance.  If he makes an addictive substance that is a major cause of an epidemic readily available to addicts, how is he helping matters?  There isn't a law against anyone bringing their own soft drinks, Menino simply doesn't want to be the one who puts it before them.

I feel that it’s wonderful that the many issues stemming from the nationwide mass consumption of refined sugars are finally being recognized by government.
